the Grand Canyon 2022

The Adventure Begins 06/25/2022

I was asked one time as to how I would describe my life. My answer was that it was one of adventure, but I was not finished. Linda and I have embarked on great adventure. We left Wetumpka this morning with our 3 grandchildren, Riley 13, Ethan 13, and Samuel 9, on a road trip to the Grand Canyon. Our route will be through Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. The whole trip will cover over 4,000 miles.

It is my pleasure to allow Riley to take over writing this blog.

In her words.. Riley

Today I woke up at about 7:00am. We embarked on our journey to Longview, Texas at 8:00am. In the car, we all were on our electronics until we got into Mississippi. We stopped on the shoulder so Granna could get a picture of the “Welcome to Mississippi” sign. We also stopped at a rest area so we could get a picture of all 3 of us in front of the Mississippi sign. When we left that rest area we drove about an hour, still in Mississippi, we stopped at another rest area and that is where we had lunch. We had made our own sandwiches and we also had some chips to go with it. We left that rest area and headed to Louisiana. I ended up falling asleep all the way to the next rest area so I didn’t see much. Once again, we got out of the car and took a photo, this time in front of the “Welcome to Louisiana” sign. We left that rest area and headed to Texas. It took about 2 hours and a half to get to Texas. We stopped once again at another rest area. We took 2 photos this time. One in front of the “Welcome to Texas” sign and one in front of the state of Texas statue. That was the last rest area we would stop at today. We drove about another hour or 2 to get to our hotel. We checked into our hotel and when we got in the room, there were 2 rooms. One room had 2 queen sized beds with a bathroom and the 2nd room had the dining area, den, and the kitchen. The hotel room had a good view and the style of the room was nice. That was the end of the trip today. In all we drove about 8 hours.

Now it is Ethan’s turn..in his words..

Today we woke up at 7:00am, we left for Texas at 8:00am. At first I just played on my phone, but once we made it to Mississippi we got out and took pictures at the Welcome to Mississippi sign. I took my yo-yo with me for something to do. On the way to Louisiana, we stopped at a rest area for lunch. We had sandwiches, chips, and fruit. After that we drove for Louisiana. On the way we played with Mad-Libs instead of electronics. They were very amusing and kept us busy until we made it to Louisiana. Once there we took pictures at the welcome center and got back in the car and left for Texas. First, we did a couple more Mad-Libs. Then, we moved on to highway bingo. It was fun at first, but then it grew boring. After that we named all the continents, and as many countries as we could in alphabetical order. Granna wrote them down so we could keep track. That was surprisingly fun and we plan to name cities tomorrow. Finally, we made it to Texas and we stopped at the welcome center to take two last pictures and a bathroom break. This time we took two pictures one in front of the Texas state statue, and one in front of the Welcome to Texas sign. About 40 minutes into Texas we stopped at a hotel. We found out that they had given us the wrong room that did not fit our needs (or what Granna and Granddaddy paid for). Once we got unpacked we went to Pizza King for supper. Then, we came back to the hotel for bed.

And now, in Samuel’s words

We played on our electronics for about one hour. Then I tried to get a game. I called Daddy and he gave me permission and the code. Once we got to Louisiana we took a picture in front of the sign which looked like a boot. When we got to Texas it was 101 degrees and we got a picture in front of the Texas sign . We went to the hotel and got the wrong room and then we went to Pizza King.

Through the eyes of children. Travel with us on this journey. Tomorrow we will travel to Lubbock, Tx and visit with my two nieces, Tami and Traci and their family, This trip is a treasure.
